Acne Causes
Hormones, one of the acne causes, will play a very important role throughout your life in determining the ups and downs of your skin. When the levels of androgen increase, for example during puberty, ovulation, menstruation and childbirth, the skin produces more oil and acne can occur.
Other Acne Causes:
Some people find that certain foods make their acne worse, for instance chocolate, caffeine, nuts, citrus fruits, high fat and spicy foods, spinach and shellfish, dairy products, refined foods, Artichokes and seaweed. There is not enough evidence to suggest that acne and diet are related. If food is suspected, it should be omitted for several weeks and then eaten in substantial quantities to see if eating it makes any different. Certain medications can also cause a flare- up. Check with your pharmacist if you have questions concerning your medication and potential side effects.
Stress triggers the adrenal glands to release the hormone cortisol, which increases the secretion of sebum, which has been linked to the triggering of acne. So, get enough sleep, follow a balanced diet and drink plenty of water because skimping on sleep, skipping meals and lack of water are stress inducers. In fact, stress is being blamed for the increase in so called adult acne in career women. You should also cut down on caffeine and high –fat foods. In severe cases, if you do these things and there is still no change, consult a skincare professional. Doctors and dermatologist offer many solutions to acne problems.
