Applying Mascara

Applying mascara can be a bit tricky. Mascara darkens and thickens the eyelashes, and makes them appear longer. Many makeup artists only apply mascara to the top lashes for most of their makeup applications. Mascara applied to the lower lashes often smudges under the eye, and looks messy halfway through the day. If you apply mascara to the lower lashes make sure it is in very small amounts. If you already have darkish rings under your eyes, this will draw attention to them.
• Using an eyelash curler before you apply mascara will shape your lashes and extend them to the fullest potential. To prevent damage, do not hold the curler too close to the roots.
• If you want to wear two coats of mascara, make sure you apply the second before the first has dried otherwise you will create clumping.
• If you use liquid eye liner for a more dramatic effect, practice making straight lines. Crooked eyeliner will ruin your look.
• Use short, feathery strokes when applying eye pencil. This way you’ll get the most precise and mess-free look.
• Always use less mascara on your lower lashes.
• For extra thick, fuller eyelashes, apply mascara to the top and bottom of your lashes.
• Waterproof mascara is a must if you're participating in swimming and outdoor sports. Same goes for emotional events such as weddings and funerals.
• When applying mascara to your bottom lashes, fold a sheet of toilet paper or tissue underneath the lashes and apply. This keeps mascara from getting on your face.
