Eye Makeup Techniques:

• Overly plucked eyebrows look unnatural and make your eyes appear smaller.

• For extra thick, fuller eyelashes, apply mascara to the top and bottom of your lashes.

• If you use liquid eye liner for a more dramatic effect, practice making straight lines. Crooked eyeliner will ruin your look.

• Waterproof mascara is a must if you're participating in swimming and outdoor sports. Same goes for emotional events such as weddings and funerals.

• The eyebrows are the most important feature in defining the face. The trick to applying a natural eyebrow shape is using a hard stiff, short brush, and working with colorations instead of pencils. Pencils can be used, but it takes practice and patience to get a natural look.

• The shape and grooming of your eyebrows will make your eyes look bigger and open up your face more naturally then wearing a lot of makeup. Be careful, as heavy brows will overpower your face. Shape your eyebrows by tweezing the hairs from underneath, not from above.

• Tweeze after a shower and it will be less painful. Most people have a good natural shape; it just needs to be defined better.

• Take the color that is the closest to your eyebrow color and fill in the gaps to make a nicely groomed brow. If in doubt, always go a little lighter then your brow.

• Use Eye shadow to shape and define your eyes. Three shades are ideal with the darkest on the lid and the lightest just below the brow bone.

• When tweezing your eyebrows first apply Ambesol to numb the area.

• Neutral tones are the best for daytime.

• If you are thinking of lightening your brows, try a colored mascara first to see what they would look like.

• Cream eye shadow is best used sparingly and only in cool weather. It has a tendency to crease. If you prefer the cream look, try a frost powder shadow that has a similar look.

• If you want your eyebrows to stay in place, put a clear mascara on them or a little hairspray on an eyebrow groomer and brush to desired shape.

• Extend your eye shadow above the lid (crease) and use a light shadow or highlighter right beneath your brow to open up your eyes and make them appear larger

• Put a light layer of powder under the eyes before applying eyeshadow. If color falls when applying color, it can be gently whisked away after you have finished your application.

• Eyeliner on the lower lids can make your eyes appear smaller. To open them up, line only the upper lids.

• Black/Brown mascara and eyeliner flatters most faces, blondes, brunettes, and redheads. Black is usually too harsh, especially for blondes.

• Always use less mascara on your lower lashes.

• When applying mascara to your bottom lashes, fold a sheet of toilet paper or tissue underneath the lashes and apply. This keeps mascara from getting on your face

• Apply foundation on lids before you put on shadow. This prep step will smooth the skin’s surface and prolong eye shadow performance.

• For clumpy eyelashes, use a lash comb to remove clumps.

• Groom and set your brows. Clear mascara works well without leaving a trace.

• Matte eye shadow looks better than frost if you're tired. Frost shadow draws attention to wrinkles.

• Make it easy to remove stubborn mascara under your lower lashes. A cotton swab moistened with eye makeup remover quickly gets rid of mascara smears.

• Using an eyelash curler before you apply mascara will shape your lashes and extend them to the fullest potential. To prevent damage, do not hold the curler too close to the roots.

• Mascara is best when two coats are applied. Make sure the first coat is dry before applying the second.

• Don’t pump your mascara wand into the mascara container. This pushes air in the container and makes the mascara dry out faster. Gently insert the wand, turn two or three times, then remove and apply to lashes

• On deep-set eyes, you should use shadow colors that are on the light side of the color spectrum. Light brings out.

• Wake up tired eyes by washing the eye area with cold water throughout the day. Also try soaking a cotton pad in warm tea and placing it over the eye area for 15 minutes. Under-eye concealer can help hide the look of fatigue.

• If your mascara thickens when it reaches the end of the tube, place tube in warm water. That will help make the mascara thinner.

• Red or bloodshot eyes are usually caused by dehydration, eye strain, allergies or more serious medical conditions, which need to be treated by a doctor. If you consumed too much alcohol or are just plain tired, place cucumber slices under eyes for 10 minutes to hydrate the eye area. Redness-relieving eyedrops can help reduce redness.
